What is NSW HEARTS?

NSW HEARTS is a study which aims to improve our understanding of inherited cardiomyopathies. The study is led by a dedicated team of clinicians and scientists based in New South Wales (NSW) Australia. It is funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council.

We are currently recruiting individuals who live in NSW and have been diagnosed with and inherited cardiomyopathy. We will collect baseline information, for example medical records, surveys, a blood sample and in some cases additional tests. Over time we will follow up with participants to learn about their health. This will help us to understand much more about these diseases.

We are committed to including people from all walks of life, whether they live in major cities or regional areas, whether they speak english or not, and hope our study participants will reflect the amazing diversity of our NSW population.

We are excited to launch this study and hope it will improve care of individuals with inherited cardiomyopathies.

What does participation in NSW HEARTS involve?

Participants will be invited to complete several online surveys, have a blood sample taken, and perhaps some additional heart tests. We will request information from your cardiologist and talk with you to learn about your personal history with cardiac disease.

If you live in NSW and have an inherited cardiomyopathy, and are interested in joining this study or would like some more information, please contact us.

We can discuss participation in more detail and provide you with an opportunity to ask questions.

Diversity is essential

NSW HEARTS aims to ensure our study participants reflect the diversity of our state. Few studies have focused on less well represented people in our population, and we believe this is an important gap in knowledge.

We are hoping to recruit patients from all walks of life, to help researchers and clinicians better understand how to treat and manage these diseases.
